2 BANISHED levels by Nevenz

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Review for:
BANISHED by Nevenz
==================
What a fantastic level (only 2 hearts).. This level is absolutely brilliant. It's very easy but it's an incredible visual experience through extremely gorgeous scenery. I loved ..almost.. every bit of it.
You travel through a demon realm.. and basically have to get to the end of the level. You will die very rarely, it feels nearly impossible as there is nothing really threatening anywhere in the level.
There is one issue with this level though... Since it's the author's first published work it can easily be forgiven.
But.. There are several jetpacks in the stage. The first is pretty problematic because you can actually often fly completely out of bounds... you can view the outer walls of the stage and even skip the biggest area of the entire stage this way. He basically just needs to make the range shorter to fix this flaw.
But hey, I still highly recommend this level since it's the most gorgeous looking user created LBP level I've ever seen in any of my threads.
It's almost on par with Azure Palace in terms of visual art direction.
Oh one thing I forgot to mention is how the author did something amazingly smart. You should all take note of this.
You know how in LBP you can't create water? But you know how water is meant to slow you down right?
Well, this guy is a genius because he came up with a brilliant way to simulate a water experience.
Basically once you hit the water he slows the game down by using a lot of decorations and lighting effects. Then once you're out of the water the game speeds up again. What's amazing is how constant the speed is during the water sequence, this must've taken ages to do.
Anyway..
PLAY THIS NOW!!
Review for: BANISHED (ep.1 prologue) by Nevenz
==================
Wow, I was actually excited when I loaded this level up because of the experience I had with the first BANISHED level (a week ago or so).
So..... was I disappointed because I had high expectations? Read on.
Just so you understand story wise... In the first BANISHED level (which occurs after this) you are in a demon realm. A strange abstract place.
In this level we get to find out how our little character got there.
You start off on a spaceship which is your main hub in this level. You fly through the universe and from time to time you'll need to fix a few things so your spaceship can travel onwards.
Anyway.. most of this will be in my video of this level.
This level has some cool surprises and a pretty chilling storyline which matches well with the story and feel of the other BANISHED level.
Visually it's an amazing experience. The author has a real feel for setting the atmosphere and tone well. It lacks a little in the gameplay department but this really doesn't matter.. You won't even notice.
Go play this right now.. or play the original BANISHED first.. and then this. You won't regret it.
Ninja by Jaeyden
Jaeyden does it again...
Yes I know he didn't request this, but while I was playing I noticed that he published it. I think I'm the first one to ever play his level.. which makes me feel kinda awesome.
Anyway.... I have high expectations of my favourite developers. So my expectations were through the roof for this level.... Did it meet them? Read on!
Ninja! is a slick and stylish looking obstacle course... not your generic boring obstacle course, nope. This one looks absolutely amazing with a lot of nice artistic touches here and there ...and it plays very uniquely. You'll need to pull off a few moves you didn't even know you could do in this game.
It plays like an absolute dream.. everything flows perfectly together and just feels absolutely satisfying to play. There's a few secrets here and there too for you secret hunters.
My only minor complaint is how I wish it was longer... but that's because I was having so much fun.
The description says (Act 1) though.. so I cannot wait for what's in store for us next.
Play this and play everything else Jaeyden has ever made, everything he touches is gold. Pure friggen gold.
Treasure Hunter 2 by Cham-R
Wonderful little level by Japanese author Cham-R... The guy who made Armageddon tipped me in on this person. ..And I liked what I saw.
This stage is part of a series of levels.. but this one was my favourite due to its quirkiness and originality. It just looks gorgeous and cute and plays uniquely as well.
Give this one a go but I also suggest checking out Cham-R's other stuff... there's a fun amusement park level, a cool rollercoaster one and Treasure Hunter 1 and 3 which are all worth having a look at.
Great Christmas level that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Beautifully decorated and designed ... excellent variety and a whole bunch of original and cool ideas.
The only complaint I have is that it's insanely easy.
Mama Sackboy by DSKEmilio
A very weird and freaky but cool Mario level here.. You guide baby yoshi through all kinds of perilous situations...
What's cool is the amount of custom art in this level. There's your basic cast including Bowser.. but there's even Bowwow(sp?) and that Rugby enemy from Super Mario World.
I laughed so much the first time I played this one... especially when I had to climb GIANT Luigi at the end.
Even if it wasn't based on Mario.. then it'd still rock since the level design is weird but kickass.
ICO (finished version) by Mushroom_Samba
A level based off one of my favourite video games of all time... ICO.
I'll admit it, I was quite sceptical at first. But this mindset quickly changed...
If you've played ICO before then you'll truly be able to admire all the effort and brilliance on display here. Even if you haven't played it.. read on anyway.
Mushroom_Samba has done something quite amazing. He has replicated the entire game. Not just one level.. no.. the entire game experience from start to finish. It's basically a summed up version of the game highlighting all the important aspects of it... from level design, to story... to atmosphere and many key moments in the original game.
You go through the level guiding a girl called Yorda while you overcome some more difficult platforming... You'll need to clear up certain areas to be able to continue along with her. She acts as a key to many of the level's doors.
I cannot think of anything I don't like about this amazing creation. Everything is very well designed in a simplistic yet intricate way. The level flow is absolutely perfect... variety's there also, and even a proper ending to the level.
This feels like a masterpiece from beginning to end.
This is the best LittleBigPlanet level I've played so far.
Go play this now.. and enjoy.
Zorro's Suicide Factory by ZorroTheMighty
I laughed quite a bit while playing this kickass level. The only downside I can think of is how short it is. I wanted more!
Anyway, .. Zorro shows you how killing yourself can be funny as hell. ..And hard sometimes too. To advance through this stage you need to figure out how to kill yourself in the rooms with numbers (there are 5 rooms total). This reminds me of an indie game I forgot the name of.. but in this game you also needed to kill yourself to win!
Zorro's level is actually a lot more fun than that game. The presentation is top notch, extremely stylish and slick design.. great consistency too.
I had an absolute blast playing this level. I just hope Zorro will create a 2nd (hopefully larger) one.
Yoran-Oran's level (JP)
An amazing Japanese level I've found somewhere a while ago...
This level is absolutely incredible when it comes to custom art and creations. What's cool is that you can win a lot of it too... Gameplay wise it's nothing too amazing or groundbreaking, but it's still a wonderful and great experience.
Give this one a go.
Space Oddity by RoboDracula
What a cool and stylish level this is. I almost felt like I was on the set of Stanley Kubrick, haha. Really though the colours are consistent with the movie which is fantastic.
In this level you're in a space station where you must ultimately destroy the robot AI.
There are awesome hazards to avoid.. really clever traps, this level is quite original. You even go out into space as an astronaut.. this level has an insane amount of variety.
And it only has something like 10 hearts.
You need to kick yourself in the head if you won't try this one out.
Rise of the Black Kaiser by Arcade-Fever
You know when I say "My only complaint is that your level lacks atmosphere."?
Look at this level, that's how you do it.... That's atmosphere.
In this level you fight through a volcanic mountain. Everything just feels so HOT!! There's a lot of difficult jumps you must make if you want to get the high score (I ranked so low, lol). And the enemy designs are absolutely beautiful.
There are 3 types of dragons in this level.... 1 which is trash mob.. then 1 mini boss and 1 HUGE boss. They all looked so amazing. Look at these if you want to know what you're up against for good creature design, authors.
What's actually really damn cool is that the author ramped up the difficulty for trash mobs by using the height of the ground. They're easy to kill in the beginning because you can easily jump on their heads.. but later it gets trickier because the ground gets a little harder to jump off. Very clever way of increasing enemy difficulty while not changing the actual enemy at all.
Anyway, I just loved playing this. It's a hard level.. but feels so satisfying when you're done. You really feel like you're inside a dangerous mountain that's hot as hell.
I only have 1 tiny complaint...... not enough variety in atmosphere. Since the author is so good at creating brilliant ambiance I would've liked to see some variety, but that may be a personal issue of mine.
Highly recommended !!!!!!!!!!!
Mr Rocket and His Army of Bobs by LuckyShot
What an amazing creation.
I am so impressed that there are still so many levels out there that kick this much ass and have hardly been played.
Anyway.. the art direction in this stage is absolutely beautiful, this level just looks great no matter where you look. On top of that.. it plays very uniquely and the level design is spot on.
There are a lot of different types of enemies you'll encounter too... But what I love that some levels just do so well is how often they switch up the gameplay. This one does it very well.
The only complaint I have with this level is the puzzle with the 3 lights. The lights should move quicker since it just really slows down the pace of the level in a bad way.
Go play this now. :]
Lord Lautrec and the Firelings by Nandroid
Do you like original level design that flows like silky smooth butter? Then this one's for you, and me.. and everyone.
There are so many ideas in this level, every bit you go through is and feels completely original and unique. This one really stands out to me in terms of originality. I mean, the author even came up with a cool way to wall jump.
It's a level that's easy enough to play through but very exciting at the same time due to the amazing setpieces.
Every moment and area of the level just feels so damn polished.... which is why the following stood out like a sore thumb. Once you meet Lord Lautrec he just won't shut up.. You have to sit through him blabbering on about lame stuff for about 20 seconds or so. This absolutely kills replay value. The whole scene needs to be skippable by pressing the circle button like any other conversations in levels. Major flaw, but can be easily fixed.
It's also a little on the short side but this can be forgiven due to the extreme complexity of certain areas.
Highly recommended. There's no way in hell you won't like this level.
KingSword Ep.2 by vegafoo
The first of this series is one of my favourite levels so far.. I gave it a 9.4 in fact.
Now lets talk about this one.. episode 2.
I'll be completely honest because that's what I promised to do.
When I started up the level I nearly facepalmed because a level template was used. Thankfully that was only for the first 1 minute of gameplay.
This one takes place at night again... and you have to infiltrate a castle and defeat an evil King (or Wizard? Big old angry guy).
Anyway, what's so cool is how you enter this castle..you start the stage outside, then go underground and meet up with some mole miners.... then you work your way up to the castle.
The castle is split into 3 very distinct sections, you must pass all these to go up to the final boss.
This may already be obvious (especially if you have played Ep.1)but the level design is absolutely incredible here. You never feel bored, never get stuck... you never stop having fun. In fact, I wouldn't mind playing this level again and again.
Hopefully Vegafoo continues the KingSword Episodes since the mood is always so kickass and the little hints of story here and there never cease to amuse.
Another fantastic but incredibly unknown level. In this stage you go through some very tough obstacles to save bunnies and rack in points. The atmosphere is brilliant.. it feels dark scary and gritty.. There are plenty of amazing lighting effects and the creator made great use of dynamic camera angles to suit what you're doing.
There's also a pretty cool boss fight at the end... It really brings the entire level to an awesome climax.
Highly recommended, play it now and heart it. Foofles absolutely deserves more recognition.
Inverted Planet by Metal_Josh (and a bit of Silent Hill)
Because his Silent Hill level was so amazing I decided to check out more of his work.. This is his first level. It's actually a major contrast since the Silent Hill level focuses more on exploration and is grim and dark... while this is fun, happy, bright and has a lot of platforming.
It's actually really unique in that you must jump over hazards and collect points while the planet rotates. Kinda like that wheel bit in the MM level The Bunker but a lot more fun and exciting.
It's short but you have to check it out.
This level is insanely creepy... there's even a pyramid head appearance which scared the crap out of me. Play it while you can .. hopefully it won't get moderated.
Miguel Miguel..... I'm impressed. This guy shows you how to make a level challenging but not frustrating one bit. It looks damn nice too.... very Green Hill Zone. hehe.
Anyway, this level isn't your standard cheap deaths thing. It's got all kinds of pretty hard jumps to make.. a really cool swinging segment and a pretty sweet end boss.
Everything in this level just felt so in harmony with each element. Beautifully crafted and wonderfully clean .. stylish too.
I think I actually hate kylemesa.
I've played difficult levels I've often given up on...... but this one just made me want to keep going and going and going.
This level has some of the most INSANE PLATFORMING. It never feels too cheap, every time you die you know it's your stupid fault. This is one of the best obstacle courses I've played.
It's got all kinds of things, ultra hard platforming, a puzzle and .. oh right. I should introduce this part of the level properly.
You know the Bunker wheel right? That huge spinning wheel you always died on.
Well Bunker wheel is NOTHING compared to the insanely HUGE wheel on this level. It's like a platforming puzzle almost. God absolutely amazing but so hard.
You need to play and finish this level right now.
Sackhouette series by Luckett_X
Both these levels look pretty fantastic and unique too. Very cool custom art.. great art direction.
But that's where my positive remarks in regards to these levels kinda come to a halt.
Like I said in the videos, the gameplay is just dull and not fun. The visuals weren't enough to keep me going. The only reason why I finished playing the levels in the first place was just to review them.
All bosses are also very basic and uncreative in terms of how you defeat them.
If you want eye candy, play these levels now. Just don't be expecting amazing level flow or gameplay.
A level that puts you inside....... you guessed it, veins. As in the veins in your body. There is no level out there right now that looks anything like this. It's wonderfully designed, the flow could not be better... this level just never has a dull moment. Its length is also quite astounding as every area feels so thought through. The atmosphere is fantastic also, you actually feel like you're inside veins. This is helped by the little blood cells that flow through them and go past your little sackboy.
The difficulty is very well balanced also. Starts off easy and gets a little harder near the end.
One of the better levels around.
Vacation by SkwerlChomp
Another first level. Well.. I gotta say.. for a first attempt at a level this is a job well done!
You're on vacation after dealing with The Collector (last story boss). This premise alone I think is very cool.. to continue where MM left off. Anyway, you're on a plane for a while.. everything seems lovely and safe until the engines start to fail. You crash land on a mountain in a mysterious place. Once you skilfully jump down some spiky rocks you notice you're in a jungle. You need to jump over quite a few hazards but it never feels tired or dull. The way you play this level just feels right, both challenging and fun.
The tone and atmosphere of the level also feels spot on. Very creative mind at work here.
The only downside is that it was so short! I wanted more. A lot more.
Hopefully the creator is continuing this story as we speak.
WOW!!! That's the first thing I could think of after completing this masterpiece of a creation. This level looks absolutely amazing. It's HUGE and so detailed and varied. You start off just wandering around outside in the dark... then when you feel the level is already over you realise it's only the beginning. You're sent down into a scary mineshaft.
This level has everything, secrets, great atmosphere, excellent and challenging platforming, fantastic artistic level design, huge variety, an awesome boss fight and much much more.
So far this is the best level in this thread.
Play it right now!! And don't give up, there's a little surprise at the end.
This level made my food go cold, I just couldn't stop playing it.
You start off on a cool looking car (right away).. and your car bumps into a moving train which you must then jump on. That's when the race begins, this level is timed.
You move from carriage to carriage while the train is moving. But every carriage has very unique and different kind of puzzles or obstacles.
This is one of the coolest LBP levels I've played so far. It's just amazing and I can't wait to play it again to beat my previous time.
Space Commander 1954! by Curtland
Another great level! It's levels like these and the one before it that remind me why I love doing these reviews.
This level is story based and it's in black and white... But it does it well! Anyway, you're on a spaceship which is getting hit by meteors, you're sent to check it out.. only to find out your ship flips upside down and crash lands. Your ship is really huge so this was quite impressive.
Then you walk around on a strange alien moon like planet.
There's a bad guy on it who controls all the robots.. he's a pretty cool enemy who makes his appearances a few times before you have to fight him piloting a huge robot (this fight was awesome btw).
The level design and production is top notch.. great art direction too. Everything looks and feels just like an old black and white sci fi movie.
My only complaint is that the platforming elements are a little basic. But I really don't care since the setting and story were so awesome.
I almost can't believe this is the author's first level. Once you hop into this stage you will probably feel the same way.
Where to begin...... This level felt so damn fresh, so many little contraptions were so original and extremely creative. The art direction in this stage is also gorgeous... so obviously the atmosphere is great.
You're in a jungly temple and you have to work your way through. I hope this is the first part of many so we can find out more about the backstory as it's quite intriguing.
I had an absolute blast playing this... so many surprises and quite a few WOW moments. I wouldn't mind playing this level again since there are a few secrets here and there.
These good levels just keep coming and coming. You people are amazing.
This one is absolutely incredible. The atmosphere is so strong and has a huge present in this stage. Vegafoo is one artistic and creative person... The lighting is incredibly good with your sackboy running over hills as a completely black silhouette to a ride on a boat against the blue waves. This level just looks incredible no matter where you look... and it doesn't stop here.
The design, oh my god. You walk from your homeland into dangerous Orc territory which consists of a huge castle with lots of brilliantly designed original enemies, mini bosses and one major boss. Words can't express how impressed I am with this creation.
Robotic Automatic by RagnarokRed
He says it's unfinished... I say he's too modest. This level is amazing and already feels like a finished product.
RagnarokRed likes to surprise you by putting you in situations you wouldn't expect. ..And that's exactly what he did with this level again. This guy is full of original and very creative ideas I'd like to know what he eats for breakfast.
This stage is set in a pretty huge battlefield(on an airship.. I think). It looks gorgeous and plays unlike anything you've played before. The difficulty scales well and ramps up nicely near the end.. But since the creator is fair with checkpoints you'll never find yourself feel frustrated. The flow is so ultra smooth and interesting, not at one point did I not know where to go next. Every object, point and hazard feels perfectly placed.
All the creator needs to do is make it feel like more of a battlefield by using more effects and maybe some moving lights that shake back and forth from time to time to really make it feel like a war... the atmosphere feels a little more sedated compared to his last level so I'm sure he will be fixing this.
Play this level right now. It's amazing.
Hea Ven Hell can be fun by Emufire
Let me just say this right away.....
This is the most intelligent level ever created in LittleBigPlanet. Emufire has created something amazing and wonderful. One of the best puzzle platform levels I have ever played... even outside of this game.
Everything is incredibly well designed, every little shape.. detail.. is all thought through.
Basically the way this level works is that as you go through it you keep dissolving areas of the stage. When you do this.. parts of the stage fall together magically so you can continue on.
Brilliant, just brilliant!!! Play it to see it for yourself, it's amazing how well planned out this level is.
I cannot wait to see what the author has in store for us next.
My only tiny complaint is that the artistic direction is weak or ... not really there. It's completely understandable since everything is built in this level to function, not to look good. But at the same time this level could do with a little bit of style. Maybe a 2 tone colour scheme or something. That would make this level one of the best ever made..
We'll see what happens.
There is one minor glitch in the level also.. but it's so minor I'm just mentioning it here for the author. At the start of the level (after you descend onto the elevator thingie..) you can actually fall through the floor if you try hard enough.. and skip the entire level. It's inbetween a small green block you can fall.
